Get condominium for you, your boat as The Port opens

The South Florida lifestyle has long been a seasonal and year-round destination for a wide variety of people, from all over the country, who want to live the resort lifestyle. However, there's much to be said for a residential development that beckons a substantial number of buyers to relocate across town - specifically from neighborhoods in the western portions of Dade and Broward Counties," noted David G. Spiers, co-principal of Everglades, LCC, developers of The Port Condominium and Marina in Fort Lauderdale. Situated on the 17th Street Causeway, bordering the west end of the Intracoastal bridge, The Port's proximity to the ocean and the fact that it is among the very last waterfront opportunities of its kind, is a major draw for locals. Weston resident Dan Christensen, 48, is one such buyer. The Minnesota native has lived in Broward County for 40 years. He is a semi retired professional in the automotive and aviation industries and finally decided to "hit the water" full time. The Port offered the perfect opportunity.

"Living in Weston has been very rewarding. It's the perfect place to build a wonderful home and raise a family;' explained Christensen. "It has a very invigorating yet relaxing atmosphere. Settling in Weston was one of the best decisions I've ever made. However, now that two of my three kids are on their own, I thought it was time to explore a different kind of lifestyle - one that puts me a little closer to the shore and the many other amenities that come with a more easterly location. When driving down the 17th Street Causeway, I felt like I was on vacation.

So when The Port came along, it was the perfect opportunity for us to live the 'vacation' all year long." By land, the beach is less than a mile from the Port, just a short stroll across the bridge. The Port is also within walking distance to many of the area's most popular dining and shopping venues along the Intracoastal. With ground broken and almost 75% of the residences reserved, The Port has the distinction of being the nation's first dry-dock storage condominium with a bridge crane system. The state-of-the-art facility will host between 11 0 and 120 slips for vessels of up to 47 feet in length. The Port's contemporary 15-story tower will offer 12 floor plans ranging from 1,384 to over 2,000 air-conditioned squarefeet. Water and city skyline views will be maximized with abundant floor-to-ceiling, impact-resistant glass doors and windows as well as oversized balconies with glass railings. Spacious master bedrooms will feature bath suites with Travertine marble, frameless glass showers, Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs and private water closets. The main living areas in all residences will host a variety of upgraded standards such as distinctive finishes, Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring and Berber carpeting in the bedrooms and secondary spaces. The ultramodern kitchens will feature polished granite countertops and Italian cherry cabinetry, stainless steel KitchenAid appliances, double oven, microwave oven and a cook top range.

With regard to the residence that Christensen chose, the Sunseeker model on the 14th floor, he noted, "The kitchen is awesome - sleek, very modern yet rich looking with fine woodwork.
